Gee Quiz started in 2010 when a local Wellington bar was dissatisfied with their current quiz provider.
The questions were boring and aimed at an older crowd, the format was stale, it was too long, and the same team always won.
They weren’t making any money either as the regular teams drank water and only ate fries.
We took that feedback on board and created a quiz that attracted a varied crowd, where everyone who came along had a chance to win, but more importantly, had an epic night out with friends.
Almost immediately it became the place to be on a Wednesday night in the city.
The questions were relevant, the format was fun, the atmosphere was electric, and it was an excuse not to cook. Within two months, there were 25+ teams in attendance each and every quiz night.
Proudly independent and 100% kiwi owned, over the past ten years, we’ve slowly spread our wings across the country bringing our brand of trivia to proactive venues that are open to change and daring to be different.
Bars are slowly but surely discovering how popular and profitable our Gee Quiz trivia nights are.
Meet the team
Sam M
Director
Sam M founded Gee Quiz as we know it today in 2011 and loves providing trivia for quiz enthusiasts across New Zealand on a weekly basis.
Sam has a tremendous passion for trivia and loves nothing more than hosting a packed pub on quiz night.
Sam is the head writer of Gee Quiz, but when he's not writing quizzes, he enjoys practising Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, travelling and hanging out with his three kids.
Ellen
Admin
Ellen started as the Gee Quiz administrator in 2019. If you have booked tickets to a themed quiz, likely you would have heard from Ellen who ensures everything is organised before the big event!

Ellen is a trivia buff and is often offering up suggestions for question or round topics for our quiz nights.
​
When Ellen's not at Gee Quiz HQ, she is creating her own detailed artwork or hanging out with her husband and daughter.
Big Red
Quiz Host | Sales
Mark aka 'Big Red' has been the resident quiz host in Hamilton for a number of years now.
Big Red is easily recognisable in the Waikato quiz scene with his perfect radio voice, bright red hair and easy-going nature.

As well as being a fantastic quiz host, Big Red is spreading the Gee Quiz gospel as our primary sales guy.
Savage
Quiz Host
Savage is a fixture in the quiz world of Wellington, popping up with a microphone in hand, delivering questions to a willing crowd 2-3 times every week.
Savage runs a very steady ship and is popular with all regular quizzers.
When he's not hosting a quiz, he might be seen on the Wellington theatre scene showing off his acting skills.
Lucho
Quiz Host | Content creator
Lucho was a regular quiz participant before moving on to microphone control and made the transition with ease.
Lucho is an extremely likable guy and you'll see his friendly, welcoming style come out during any quiz night he hosts.
Lucho also is a content creator and specialises in putting together the questions for our themed quizzes - a very delicate art!
Anna
Quiz & Bingo Host
Anna has been running the Bingo leg of Gee Quiz for several years now and is as popular as ever.
You'll likely see Anna calling the shots on a Tuesday and Wednesday in the Wellington CBD and always brings in regular punters with her unique style.
Anna is also a singer-songwriter and regularly plays solo gigs throughout the city. She has also been the lead character in a short film and is fluent in Japanese!
Sam I
Quiz Host
Sam I is an ever-enthusiastic host who never says no to a gig.
Sam is a born natural and brings great energy and wacky humour to any quiz night he hosts. Sam is our main themed quiz host and has traveled the country far and wide over the last few years presenting quizzes in a wide array of costumes!
Sam is a trained performance artist and is often seen plying his trade at improv shows, productions and as a stand-up comedian.
Louis
Quiz Host
Louis is a jack of all trades of show business.
Popular with everyone he comes across, not only is Louis a hilarious and laid-back quiz host, he is a stand-up comedian, actor, tour guide and part-time male model.

If you ever see Louis out and about, sit down and buy him a drink - you'll be sure to get your money's worth, for Louis has a passion for all things dark, deep and thoughtful.
Malcolm
Quiz Host
Malcolm is resident host at two of our suburban Wellington quiz nights and has a tremendous following.

Known as Mr. Reliable, Malcolm brings his unique style to the quizzes he hosts and creates fantastic relationships with quiz regulars.

Malcolm is known around the acting world of Wellington and is regularly on stage putting his fantastic theatrical skills to use.
